Development of slides and interactive simulations for 1:1 live learning classes for students of all grades
Each of the 8 grades had 100 classes, and each class required 8 applets. A pipeline was set up to create those many interactive elements in just one year!
Development of slides and interactive simulations for 1:1 live learning classes for students of all grades
Each of the 8 grades had 100 classes, and each class required 8 applets. A pipeline was set up to create those many interactive elements in just one year!
Goal
With the pandemic at its peak and learning models shifting to online classes, we needed to figure out the best way possible to teach Math online across the 1:1 and 1:few formats. More importantly, we wanted to identify ways to make classes interactive and engaging for all the students. The aim was not just to make a class fun but also add value and teach Math visually like no other player.
Process
There's an internal saying which we take very seriously, "Coat the broccoli with chocolate." Based on the detailed user research that we conducted, we realized that that was the exact route we had to take here as well. After a thorough mapping of content across grades to optimize creation, we got down to building worlds and IPs to better fit content into storylines, and make them more engaging.
This required creation of guidelines, art assets, environments and a bunch of smart reusability strategies to come up with scalable storylines. Additionally, an elaborate pipeline of storyboarding and applet creation was also set up to build interactivities on Cocos and GeoGebra to teach difficult Math concepts with simulations.
Depending on the age group, the art styles and storytelling complexity also had to change, and accordingly teams that could either create content in 3D or 2D styles were figured out. Also, since the product offering was sold with the async content as an add-on, it was important to figure out strategies where both components had some synergy, and hence the decision of writing and creating art a specific way.
Result
The final product, Create with Math, which then got rehashed to BYJU'S Math Companion, was a massive hit with students across 5 geographies. With a Net Promoter Score of over 60 at its peak, the interactivity and content-telling strategies adopted in the classes was loved by children of all ages. Truth be told, sales did see a decline once the pandemic subsided but the innovation in content creation and workflows set to create such volumes created the stepping stones for subsequent live learning products for others subjects.
