Content creation for an educational app catering to kids below the age of 8

Over 700 hours of immersive content was created across formats like games, 2D and 3D animated videos, and live action shoots, all alongside Disney.

Goal

The expectation was to create a world-class product that teaches Math, Science and English to children between the ages of 3 to 8. The mobile and web app, created in collaboration with Disney was filled with engaging videos, games, books, and a whole lot of interactions using Disney characters.

Process

Depending on the content type, the pipeline, team distribution, and approach dramatically varied. Over 300 hours of 3D content was created in partnership with over 10 renowned studios, and an in-house team of 3D specialists, animators, writers, and producers. While all the scripts, characters, environments, and motion graphics for content communication were handled internally, the animation was outsourced based on the shared storyboard inputs.

The 2D videos and games leveraged Disney characters, which demanded a pipeline of its own with respect to storytelling, animation, and interactions, needed approval and tightly knitted collaboration from hotshots in Disney. The live action videos required multiple skills like set design and production, and were shot with renowned child actors to create a vibe of peer-to-peer learning for the users.

All the content of over 2000 3D videos, 500 2D Disney videos, 200 live action videos, and 500 games were packaged into learn journeys to make learning easy. Additionally, the product was sold with magic books that used Osmo's interactive tech to make for a phygital experience like no other. Over the 2 years of content creation, over 20 IPs were created, each spinning off over 80 episodes.

Result

The final product, Disney-BYJU'S Early Learn, which was originally created for India (and dubbed in over 6 regional languages) was also localized for geographies such as North and South America with respect to content curriculum and cultural appropriation, and released in 2021 to a very warm appreciation of over 100K downloads and purchases till date globally.
